पत्थर के होंठ
In this dramatic novel of Indian urban life, translated from the Hindi, the author portrays a traditional and affluent family caught in the turmoil of a painful dilemma. One of the sons, joint heir to property and power, is afflicted with a mild form of insanity. It is suggested that marriage may cure him, but who would agree to marry a man known to be mentally unsound? Nevertheless, the cure is attempted, and by unorthodox means. But the family is orthodox, and finds it extremely difficult to live with the unorthodox solution it has so lightly accepted. Many vital issues are at stake. Respectability versus decency, tradition versus humanity.
