Kati Patang by Gulshan Nanda is a novel about a young woman who runs away from her wedding and ends up taking on the identity of a dying woman.Madhavi, an orphan, is forced to marry someone she doesn't know by her maternal uncle. On her wedding day, she runs away to be with the man she loves, Kailash, but finds him with another woman. Heartbroken, she returns home to find her uncle has died by suicide. Madhavi meets Poonam, a childhood friend who is on her way to stay with her in-laws after her husband's death. Poonam convinces Madhavi to take on her identity and raise her baby, Munna, in Poonam's in-laws' home. Madhavi's lie is threatened when she falls in love with a forest ranger named Shekhar, who turns out to be the man she abandoned on her wedding day.
Kati Patang was adapted into a popular Hindi film in 1970. The film starred Asha Parekh as Madhavi and Rajesh Khanna as Shekhar.

Gulshan Nanda, a popular writer of many films and novels initially published all his novels himself. In 1958 a new publishing houses was established named Hindi Pocket Books by Deenanath Malhotra.
Most of Nanda's novels were later published either by Ashok Pocket Books or Hindi Pocket Books.
Despite his success with films and populartiy among readers, Nanda was never considered one of the literary writers by the Hindi public sphere.
Though HathiTrust and Google Books shows the English translation, it doesn't seem to be available to buy anywhere.
