The Toxic Tribal Land of Marang Goda

मरंग गोड़ा नीलकंठ हुआ

The author has called this work a narrative of the tribal contending with radiation, pollution and displacement, but as a matter of fact, its arena is more comprehensive and much wider, comprising the stories of struggle following the nuclear holocaust in the Second World War and the continual displacement of the tribal through appropriation of their land for the mining of radioactive materials and development. It is a saga of the jungle too. The intimacy, detail and the subtlety with which the novel deals with the life of the tribal in tandem with the forest and Nature is a brilliant testimony to the author’s close observation of the minutest realities of their life. It is not limited only to the Singhbhum tribal of India but also touches the lives of the tribal inhabiting Japan, America and the different islands of Australia.
